Cory Monteith: Self-described Work-In-Progress
(Cory Monteith stops by to chat with The First Wire on the red carpet of the LA premiere of Glee 3D: The Movie.)
Just a little after interviewing Lea Michele from Glee, TFW team from LA was able to catch up with Cory Monteith who plays Finn on the hit-Fox show.
Some of the questions posed to Cory were user-submitted and will have the name and location of the person who sent them tagged along.
Thank you so much to Cory for taking time out of his busy schedule in the junket to talk to us. Hope all enjoy the interview!
TFW: Wow, so how does it feel to see this premiere take place?
CM: It’s amazing, really. The movie is fantastic and just seeing all of the fans makes all of the work worth it.
TFW: What about this movie, do you think will be especially pleasing to Gleeks everywhere?
CM: Well, it obviously has all of the original cast on it. I think fans will appreciate seeing how much fun we’re having with performing and that we’re all just having a good time together instead of it being a strict concert setting. We had fun at all of our 40+ performances and I’d like to think the fans in those cities did too!
TFW: “How would you describe yourself?” (Alanna, Albany)
CM: I would use the words “work-in-progress”. No matter what new venture I take on - whether professional or personal - I’m always striving to make things better. This could be my relationships with my family, friends or castmates or just my overall demeanor - but, I’d like to think everything can always be better and that philosophy sort of drives my life.
TFW: Do you believe that you’ve grown as a result of being on “Glee”?
CM: Oh, definitely! There is no question in my mind that I’ve grown. I’ve grown as a performer and artist both vocally and in how I disect and analyze the character that I’m playing. I can say with certainty that I know “Finn” as a person better now than I did when we started shooting season 1 of the show.
TFW: Speaking of Finn, a reader submitted this question about him: “What three words would you use to describe Finn?” (Drew, Nashville)
CM: I would describe him a lot like myself in terms of him being a “work-in-progress”. Although, he is in high school so I would have to go with: Developing, Complicated, and Inquisitive (finding himself).
TFW: What was the best thing about going on the road to tour with your fellow Glee castmates for the summer?
CM: Hands down: the camradarie. All of us are just such good friends and have grown so close over the past couple years. It’s like going on a road trip with your family… well, maybe better.
TFW: Any special moments or memorable ones from the tour?
CM: So many! This one isn’t special, but memorable. There was one night, I forget which city we were in. Darren was singing and some lady in the front row pulled him off the stage and into the pit! He was pretty upset about it since he could have hurt himself on the railing in front. Thankfully, he was fine just shaken up. One crazy lady, huh?
TFW: “Do you ever find yourself acting like Finn in real life?” (Ashley, Ft. Lauderdale)
CM: When I first started Glee, I was so worried that I would mess up the part that I would sometimes be in character at home and with my friends. I think I did my best to keep the two separated, but Finn and I are a lot alike in some ways so I’m sure I crossed the two at some point. I’m hoping that’s only a natural part of acting.
TFW: “How excited are you for season 3 of Glee?” (Anthony, Houston)
CM: So excited! We start filming on Monday and I just finished reading the script for the first episode last night - it’s going to rock. Seriously, everyone needs to get ready. It’ll be something to remember.
TFW: Any exciting projects you’re working on right now?
CM: I’m pretty focused on Glee right now. I want to help produce a third season that will leave people talking for a while… all of the Gleeks had better watch out for it, it’s going to be amazing.
TFW: Life mantra?
CM: Enjoy the ride, there is no round trip.
TFW: Thanks for talking with us, Cory! This has been fantastic and good luck with everything!
CM: I just want to send a special thank you to your readers - great questions, you guys!
Please leave comments, questions, etc on the interview! We’d love to hear what you think. Reblog so all can see!
